WESTPORT, CT (April 2000) - Velocity
Sports & Entertainment and The Event Company significantly
expanded their capabilities by merging their respective
companies. Under the terms of the agreement, Velocity
acquired an ownership position in The Event Company
although both companies will continue to operate in
separate offices under their current brand names.
Velocity Sports & Entertainment is a sports and
entertainment marketing agency that specializes in delivering
unbiased marketing-driven programs to corporations and
properties throughout the world. Since the agency opened
its doors in June of 1999 total revenues and the number
of staff have nearly doubled. Current clients include
companies such as FedEx, IBM, Texaco and Showtime as
well as NASCAR on the property side.
The Event Company is a full service event-planning firm
that specializes in sports and event marketing. Current
clients include Bell Atlantic, the New York Times and
Novartis. The company was founded in 1993 by its president
Ginny Bloomquist, who has over 15 years experience in
producing and managing events. Ms. Bloomquist will now
serve as an Executive Vice President at Velocity where
she will oversee The Event Company.
The merger has important benefits for both companies.
Velocity will significantly enhance its event implementation
and meeting planning capabilities, while The Event Company
will benefit from the strong strategic planning expertise
found at Velocity. Both companies also benefit from
deeper resources and an expanded client base. Mike Reisman,
Velocity Principal stated, "This merger brings
together two companies with similar management philosophies
and office cultures, and combining our resources allows
us to offer stronger capabilities to new and existing
clients."
The benefits of the merger are already evident. Velocity
and The Event Company recently collaborated on developing
an Olympic plan for Bell Atlantic. According to Ginny
Bloomquist, "The combined efforts of our two companies
have already helped us bring significant added value
to an important client like Bell Atlantic, and this
type of collaboration will only continue to benefit
our clients in the future."
