Event Management: Chrysler Club Championship & Golf Digest

Situation   Golf Digest Publications had plans to host a high quality, amateur golf tournament among club champions. Velocity and GDP collaborated on the development and optimal format for the tournament and in 2004 GDP sold the title sponsorship to Chrysler.
Solution   Velocity worked with both golf associations and PGA sections in the initial year to create a tournament modeled after a PGA TOUR professional's playing experience. Top finishers from each regional advance to the finals and the female and male champions at finals win a spot in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic Pro-Am. Velocity has worked with various support sponsors throughout the 4 years of the tournament, including current partners Callaway, The Golf Channel and the AJGA, to further enrich the Chrysler Club Championship.
Results   Since Velocity was engaged in 2004, the program has grown each year and now includes 8 regional tournaments. Local club participation has increased to include over 1200 clubs nationwide, 200 plus Chrysler test drives and over 120,000 participants. The final tournament is now held at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples at the same time as the Merrill Lynch Shootout. A Golf Expo was added in 2007 to promote the event, the sport and support sponsors, while building a broader showcase for Golf Digest Publications and Chrysler.
